Elaborate arrangements for TCS World 10K

Shri Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic,Bangalore City, joined Race Director, Hugh Jones, Medical Director Dr. Vivek Jawali, Technical Delegate Dave Cundy and Vivek Singh of promoters Procam International to ensure another world class event when the TCS World 10K Bangalore is flagged off from the Shri Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday, June 5.

Speaking on the traffic arrangements for Race Day, Shri Sood said that though the city's roads were not in the best of shape due to the major construction work on in the city, all efforts would be made to provide a traffic free and hassle free run to the participants.

He also appealed to the citizens not participating in the event to bear with any inconvenience cause due to the traffic closure on some roads and said, "it is an event of the city, for the Bangaloreans, by the Bangaloreans and deserves everyone's support."

A detailed travel advisory would be issued by the Traffic Police before the event, he added.

Race Director Hugh Jones said that all possible preparations were being put into place to deliver another successful edition of the World's Premier 10K Run. He too acknowledged the impact the event has made on global athletics in a short span of time and said the TCS World 10K ranked among the top distance running events around the world.

Medical Director, Dr. Vivek Jawali of Fortis Hospitals assured a safe race day for all participants, expected to number in excess of 21,000. Elaborating on the medical support, he said there would be five Medical Stations set up on Race Day, (including two base camps in Shree Kanteerava Stadium), besides which there would be six fully equipped ambulances and 150 doctors on duty on race day.

Besides the doctors, there would be nearly 1500 Law & Order and Traffic Police on Race Day to prevent any untoward incidents. Their efforts would be supplemented by 400 private security guards and 700 volunteers. 55,000 liters of water, besides the Sports Drink Lucozade would be provided to keep the participants hydrated The event would be telecast live between 7.00 am and 10.30 am on Star Sports, Star One and Doordarshan.
